The international advisory board
An internationally scientific advisory board was formed in the first quarter of 2012, and consists of experts of animal welfare assessment, automatic monitoring, ICT and decision support. The purpose of the advisory board is to give high-level scientific input to the alliance. The members have been selected to bring in expertise on areas crucial to the project or for their overall expertise in the field. The members are:
- Dr. Daniel Berckmans, professor at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and head of the Division M3-BIORES: Measure, Model & Manage Bioreponses, an expert on Precision Livestock Farming will contribute with expertise on sensor based monitoring with emphasis on the technological aspects.
- Dr. Anna Valros, professor of Animal Welfare, Department of Production Animal Medicine, University of Helsinki, an expert on welfare assessment will contribute with her expertise on welfare assessment based on sensor data.
- Dr. Henk Hogeveen, associate professor of Animal Health Economics at Wageningen University (also associated to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University) an expert on production monitoring and decision support in animal production will contribute with his expertise on use of automatically collected sensor data for monitoring and decision support.
- Dr. Birte L. Nielsen, Directeur de recherche, Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique, Jouy-en-Josas, France, an expert on animal behaviour and welfare issues will contribute with her biological expertise on welfare in pigs.
